Any new, original and capable of multiple reproduction appearance of a product, which manifests itself in particular in the shape, the features of the outside surface, colours, lines or ornamentation, shall constitute an industrial design.

A right in registration is granted for 25 years counted from the date of filing of an industrial design application with the Patent Office.

The protection of industrial designs which increase the attractiveness and value of products should be considered at an early stage of product design. In addition, it protects against copying and counterfeiting of products and leads to higher profits.

Patent Office provides a wide range of services in order to protect industrial designs:

• industrial design registrability searches in domestic and international databases and preparing reports
• filing industrial design applications with the Polish Patent Office, the Office for Harmonization of the Internal Market of the European Union (OHIM) as well as with other foreign Patent Offices
• supervising and payment of official fees
• opposition and invalidation proceedings before the Polish Patent Office and Office for Harmozation in the Internal Market (OHIM)
• changes and up-dates in industrial design registers
• drafting of legal opinions and expertise
• drafting agreements related to industrial design
